RCCG Believers

RCCG Believers parish is a typical example of a small mustard seed that germinates, grows so big and provides a shade to other plants. It is the evidence of small beginnings turned great and a true seed of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Currently the Lagos Province 88 Headquarters, RCCG Believers Parish was planted in September 1999 on a rented space at 2b Makarious street Ajah, Lagos state. It was started as the project work of the Bible College graduates of the Redeemed Christian Bible College, Resurrection Parish Campus 1999.

Brother Lanre Akinyo, his assistant, Brother Ovri Madagwa and 80 workers were posted to start the parish by Pastor Peter Akalamudo, the Area/Zonal Pastor, RCCG Area 10 (Resurrection Parish). The worship centre then was a make shift tent on a rented space made of zinc roof with no walls, shutters nor doors. The pastor’s office, vestry and ushers’ room were all in a compartmentalized 20 feet container behind the open worship space.

The first Sunday service took place on 2nd October 1999 with 81 persons in attendance. In less than a year, Sunday attendance had grown to over 350. Midweek service then was held on Wednesday rather than Tuesday and Thursday as it is today. With increasing membership, the parish began to make structural improvements to enlarge the worship space and in year 2002, a swampy one-acre land was purchased for her permanent site. It took several layers of sand filling to reach the level it is today. This same year, the parish became an Area headquarter.

Following the erection of a better though still temporary worship hall, the parish moved to the permanent site and held its first service in October 2004 with attendance of 497 persons. On the 30th of May 2010, the foundation of the newly completed auditorium was laid with a projected capacity for 2500 persons and could accommodate over 4000 persons if overflowed to the car parking space below.

Fifteen parishes in Lagos state were planted in the first twelve years of Believers Parish existence. In September 2011, Pastor Lanre and A/P (Mrs) Adeola Akinyo were transferred to RCCG Jesus Assembly, Ikota Lekki Lagos; Pastor David and Pastor (Mrs) Mary Abodunrin who were in charge of Zone 5, LP6 were transferred to Believers Parish.

Over the last eight years, starting from the foundation level, Our God the Ultimate Builder has preserved the parish and made us weather all storms and challenges. In the same vein, through a special CSR scheme called Believers Youth for Christ (BY4C) which is focused on human capital development and drawing youths off the street to Christ, God has saved the souls of many. BY4C is set to provide youth attractions, sports equipments, free sports viewing centres and controlled access to free internet.

God has also moved many of the previously planted parish to their permanent site. We give all glory to God.
